Well, I bought this double vinyl-records set out of curiosity, as it was promising a new remaster, a booklet with new unpublished pictures and… a nice print with Mr. Jarrett’s signature!
I admit I was expecting MUCH more from a quite expensive new issue of a record which made ECM strong enough, back in mid-‘70s.
Unfortunately, my expectations were (partially) delusional as the quality of vinyl and pressing are awful: powerful, loud bumps, clicks and pops like a record which was played several dozens times with a worn cartridge, but… it was a factory sealed copy!
New cutting is also quite strange (to be fair), made squeezing a lot of music on side A and resulting in a COMPLETELY empty side D!!!
Sound isn’t bad, though… but… BUT, it could have been a true statement and it’s not!
Music - of course - is always great and iconic as it can be and I decided to don’t bother me asking my shop for a new sampler, as I’m pretty sure about all records won’t/wouldn’t be up to par.
Instead, I’ll read and enjoy the new booklet and will frame KJ’s signed sought-after picture… and I’ll enjoy the Köln concert from my vintage, 50 years old original, beloved copy or from my pristine Japanese SACD!
That’s just a sign of current, imperfect times, where also Mr. Jarrett’s health isn’t so good, anymore.
… and: here is the confirmation of the reason why I don’t buy recently pressed discs that often!
