Infamous moments in jazz

A Benjamin Britten’s disc 2die4

A part of my Benjamin Britten’s collection…

~~~~~~~~~
This Britten’s disc is a masterpiece, both musically and aurally 🥇🥇🥇 a super-disc, indeed! Dynamics are awesome, low-bass in spades! … and Peter Pears’ voice is so “here”… I own several Britten’s discs and many of them are absolute masterpieces - i.e. Death in Venice, War Requiem, Prince of the Pagodas, Noye’s Fludde… well: this disc is in same league with a plus of small (weird) ensemble: harp, large and small percussions, flute, trombone and voices.
A beauty for the ears 🎶🎶🎶
A Miles Davis’ acetate
A Miles Davis-related gem: a few acetate test-pressings from his ‘61 Carnegie Hall show with Gil Evans.  Even has the liner notes written by Teo Macero 😱 !
Box-set to die for - Tomas Gallia-engineered 5 discs box…
… masterfully recorded in old Italian churches.
Here are five historic organs in their dusty, beautiful homes, recorded by my personal hero and mentor, Tomas Gallia (of BASF/German Harmonia Mundi and Astree record labels fame).
You’ll appreciate an extraordinary piece of art: sublime music, playing, recording, booklet and packaging.
A must have: not an audiophile record, just among the best music money can buy.
Enjoy… some copies are currently available on eBay 🥂
Nirvana’s Nevermind, Blind Faith’s?
Who’s next?
Elden, who has “Nevermind” tattooed on his chest, also argues in the suit that the the band “reproduced child pornography depicting Spencer knowing and intending that it would be distributed internationally and that they would receive value from such widespread worldwide distribution.” Elden went on to argue that they “failed to take reasonable steps to protect Spencer and prevent his widespread sexual exploitation and image trafficking” and as a result he “has suffered and will continue to suffer lifelong damages.”
In addition to the $150,000, the suit requests that “attorney’s fees and other litigation costs reasonably incurred” also be covered.
“It’s fucked up,” Elden previously said in a 2016 interview with GQ Australia. “I’m pissed off about it, to be honest.” Elsewhere in the same interview Elden compared the experience of being featured on the album’s cover to “that dream where you go to school without your clothes on”.
… or not?
… and what about the cute teenager on Blind Faith’s disc cover?
Will her be the next suing Clapton & Winwood?
When I’m 64
Two sensational discs on Triston Master Recordings/Schopper Edition - proudly recorded and pressed in Switzerland
These discs are in my humble opinion a “must have” for all serious music lovers and audiophiles.
Both recordings were made by Susan Rybicki-Varga at the majestic sounding Jesuit Church in Sion, Valais (Switzerland) using premium Schoeps and Neumann microphones, Telefunken V76 mike preamp and Studer C37 tube tape machine: violin/piano in 1973 and violin concertos in 1982 and 1983… the recording consistency is UNBELIEVABLE!
Maestro Tibor Varga playing on Saint-Saens is of exceptional quality as is recording, so lively and romantic.
The Snitkovsky/Wyss piano/violin disc is also a winner.
The extremely limited edition (for both discs is 300 copies worldwide!!!) pushes me to strongly push you to hurry up to contact Jürg Schopper at www.schopper.ch to get your copy while supplies last.
I’m just now soaking in Varga’s Albinoni and it’s ambrosia 🎶🎶🎶🎶🥇🎶🎶🎶🌸🥇🎶
As a plus, an HUGE ONE, Tibor Varga’s voice is heard on Albinoni’s while rehearsing.
Lovely, indeed! 🎶🎶🎶
Another Pierre Dørge’s nugget
I searched for and found a minty copy of this Steeplechase’s made in Denmark pressing by one of my most beloved “guitar voices” ever.
Like on many of the first PD’s discs, John Tchicai is also present: no surprise as Mr. Dørge was a fervent follower and scholar of the great saxophonist.
The music is adventurous and unique - whose Northern-flavor is so unfettered by bop and blues traditions - and the superb recording is well magnifying nuances and dynamics.
An humble buried treasure which would deserve more esteem.
🥳
A social-networks specialty 🤟
Studer C37 - the poser music machine
I’ll never forget when the late, fondly missed Tim de Parravicini called the mighty Studer C37 “a poser reel to reel” suggesting to listen to, instead, to a Nakamichi 1000 premium cassette for better specs and frequency response 🥳
Well, TdP’s provoking wittiness wasn’t totally wrong: his goal was keeping away wealthy newbies from such a music industry icon.
Such a machine deserves best use at the service of good music and musicians… not just spinning a CD dub a couple of times per year (you know: shit happens 😱😏🥳😱).
A trusty, skilled and handy technician is also mandatory to keep this machine up to specs.
Everything considered, my C37 is a wonderful sounding reel to reel machine and I’ll make it the (new) foundation for my humble vintage home-studio.
Thanking Arnaldo, Jürg, Walter and Marco.
