Sunday Disk - Harvestman - Lashing the Rye (2005)

My music pusher Alessandro brought some nuggets at the local, monthly flea-market... impossible missing him and... voilà: found some interesting stuff, but this disk TRULY is something...

Loops, fuzz pipes, drone guitars, heavenly distorting... like Jerry Garcia on vacation somewhere in the Highlands... psych-folk, whatever... I like it!

Some personal renditions of late John Renbourn and Bert Jansch's stuffs, whose voice is also sampled in a very nice, spacey Jack Orion cover, maybe the disk highlight.

Steve Von Till AKA SVT is playing most of the instruments and composing, plus some side musicians very sparingly appearing here and there.

A superb find, indeed.

Saturday Afternoon Disk - Richter & Syn ‎– Nanebevzetí Anežky Marie Sněžné

Always and again thanking Poli5 and his boss... this afternoon I was (better) routing my system cables in my studio and listening to this nice disk I already enjoyed a couple of times in the last weeks... I was puffing and sweating and the Gotorama was playing in the background, a nice radio, you know...

While working I noticed that the music was so naturally fitting the room and the moment... the only idea popped in my mind was that the music was just right and a no-brainer, like breathing...

I realized I was listening and not listening, at the same time.

It happens, sometimes... the out-of-axis listening can be as rewarding as the most concentrated, centered-between-the-speakers... you loose focus and detailing, but you sort-of appreciate the music as a matter of fact, naturally.

I'm sure not a philosopher, so I've not the words and skills to better deepens my thoughts, yet I feel that music needs an open, clean mind... I dare: an emptied mind to be filled by the easy complexities of music...

A non-ordinary world where thinking isn't a need... where cosmic osmosis works flawlessly.

Where clouds shapes doesn't seem animals...

... they are, for example, a rabbit.

Do you a favor: dig this disk...  you'll recognize echoes of Canterbury prog, Faust, Penguin Cafe Orchestra, but it remains truly unique and its own...  also if I cannot spell the disk title, I love it for its hic et nunc quality and its ability to dress space and time, like it happened this afternoon, in my studietto.

Lovely.

Time, sex and music or when less is more…

… sometimes.

What’s going on?

Am I tired of behemoth speakers, multiamping, complications and multiple ON/OFF procedures?

No, not really…  I nonetheless find myself quite partial vs. the smaller audio system: Partridge/300B monoblocks, Luxman AT3000, EMT 930st, Telefunken M15-A, Studer A730 and Cabasse Dinghy 221…  all Actinote cables throughout.

I mean I consider the larger Gotorama/Garrardzilla system like the prize and consolation after an heavy week or when I’ve all the time needed to dig a record or an author, loosing myself in music, 100% time-unconcerned and unworried.

This reminds me that not always you have lengthy sex with candles lights, oil massages and two spare hours to enjoy it with your loved one.

Sometimes the sex we have is just “sex”, not really making love, taking care each others and we -  sort-of – are in a hurry or so.

Music, sex… talking about pleasures of life.

Maybe - and this SURE happens – I find myself more open to fully enjoy the bigger system in a lazy, great, relaxed, rainy, cold Saturday afternoon when I REALLY wish to enjoy two or three full discs in a row… when the above mentioned complication of warming up the four Hiragas’ Class A power amps isn’t annoying but giving a sense of something special happening, soon.

The smaller system, as several of my pals also appreciated and enjoyed, first hand is really nicely sounding… percentage, folks?

I try to state a 70 percent pleasure of the larger system - i.e. the resolution and soundstaging is really great… dynamics?

Well the Cabasses’ 98 db/W/m sensitivity is a limit which makes the small combo giving shivers only with smaller sized music, but they are nonetheless a truly great speaker.

A well kept secret... but just ask Franco, Daniele, Christian, Wolfgang, Edoardo, Andrea, Mario, Fabio, Jean... when time is pretty right, listening to Gotorama really makes me happy, feeling alright, with its almost healing power.

I strongly wish for this 30% more... and have it.

The above thoughts make me considering “time” as the greatest variable in pleasure… you know, when we say, when flying, for instance - this four hours long flight never ends… it seems I've been in this aircraft for 48 hours, now… and the like…

Pleasure : time = music : sex

Mind is so mysterious and the truest pleasures needs time and relaxation to let the magic to happens… opening chakras isn’t an ON/OFF operated switch.

It happens, when conditions are pretty right, period.

Seeking for this sought-after 100% enjoyment can be tricky, pals.

… yet, much rewarding and unforgettable.

Opus 3 mastertapes!

Yeah!

The Telefunken M15s' used by Opus 3 for 1:1 master-dubbing

Thanking River Yu for his tape-copy picture...

Enjoying a lot... handling a tape is such an old-timey pleasure and skill needed to do so reminds me of pipe smoking, tuning a motorbike, knotting a bow-tie...

I'm such a romantic.

Nick Drake - Keeping the torch alive... but is it necessary?

Nick's sister, the actress Gabrielle Drake recently wrote a book about her late brother... I'd say that everything about an artist is in his art, so everything else, books, essays, reviews, well... is redundant... yet...

... from The Guardian's interview to Mrs. Drake, more and more interesting facts surface for the die-hard music lover and Nick Drake scholar, but also for common people, someone who - at least - knows that Pink Moon is Nick's third disc and not computer image graphic artistry or something LSD induced.

Weird thinking that people is chipping his grave-stone to the point it had to be recently replaced, same as happened at Pere Lachaise cemetery in Paris for Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde... and how lovely are the Drake family b/w pictures...

I respect and thanks Mrs. Gabrielle Drake for her editorial effort, a nice coffee table thick gorgeous book.

 Gabrielle Drake now...

... and when acting in UFO TV series...

On my part, I prefer Nick's music and enjoying some fond listenings of his masterpieces.

That's more than enough for me... and for the world.

Maybe...
