🎻

Maker: Bartolomeo Giuseppe Antonio Guarneri, del Gesù (21 august 1698-17 october 1744)

Instrument: 1742/3 Del Gesù, Paganini-Cannone. The violin that Paganini bequeathed two years before his death, by will, to his hometown Genova, is a "Guarnerius del Gesù" built by the famed luthier in 1742/3. The name del Gesù derives from the fact that Guarneri used to add on their instruments the inscription IHS "Iesus Homini Salvator" with their fire-mark upon a cross. The instrument has the characteristic of having a flattened belly, and it have a strong baritonal voice, for this reason  was nicknamed as Cannone. In this sonic way, perhaps collaborate the width of 115mm in side that excels in almost 10mm Stradivari’s paragon.

Artists: Paganini, 60 Variazioni sull’Aria Genovese “Barucaba”, Salvatore Accardo, Solo Violin.

Recording: Italy Original Recording and Only Issues in first and second pressings in the Dynamic DSP 423 Dark-Blue First Pressing Stereo Label and DS 4001 Black Second Pressing Stereo Label. Given the nature of the documentary record the engineers tried to get a picture and the best sound in the foreground of Paganini's Guarnerius, to enable the student to evaluate the relationship between the recording and the natural sound of that special instrument. To ensure unity of heat and execution, performed in a single session, the Paganini Variations were recorded in the same sequential order of the original and without using any interpolation in the master tape edition.
