I’m a fast, compulsive, instinctive writer… BUT, after spending some quality-time with one of the musicians I most cherish and appreciate in the world, I had to take my time, traveling back home by train from Venice: I had to distillate and focus all the emotions I got in a couple of very dense hours… trying to share them.
Not an easy task 🫣
As an accredited blogger, I attended to the award ceremony where the “Leon d’Oro” (the Golden Lion) award to the career was well-deservedly given to the beloved Meredith Monk.
Also if I listened to her music for ~ 50 years, I only met her in person last year, after a wonderful concert at Teatro Olimpico in Vicenza and she already impressed me with her warm, beautiful persona…
Yesterday, it was simply wonderful… I don’t know why, shortly before the ceremony at Biennale’s Palazzo Giustinian, I felt the need to buy three red roses 🌹 from a street vendor in nearby Piazza San Marco (try to find an handy florist in Venice!!!).
As soon as I was back to Biennale sumptuous palace, at the bookstore I found a just printed book (October 2025) of conversations with Meredith Monk, which I bought, pronto.
At noon all participants to the event were allowed to the Sala delle Colonne, an impressively huge room, where I found my reserved seat.
After a few minutes members of MM’s ensemble arrived and took a seat a row after me, and - shortly after - Meredith arrived, too.
She was radiant, elegant with her iconic hair-braids and very sweet… I queued with other people who wished to greet and congratulate her and I donated my humble red roses which she greatly, sincerely appreciated.
We had some pictures together taken and she apologized for her chilling cold hands ❤️
After that first moments, many words, anecdotes and chatting and handshakes and words and tears in eyes and empathy with beautiful people (Meredith Monk, Allison Sniffin 💫 and Katie Geissinger) and I felt, strongly felt that humankind will survive to all and everything if we’ll persevere and pursue beauty and arts and sharing love every day.
Flying soul 💫
Thanks, dearest Meredith, for the untiring endless search for the Mystery and Beauty of Life💫
Unsurprisingly, she love sharing with young people her art, sure hoping for a follow-up of her lifelong work… and the kids loved her dearly.
Congratulations for the Leon d’Oro, Meredith 💫🥂💫🥂💫🥂
The three humble red roses proved to be the only flowers she got, yesterday 🤗🫣🤭🤗🫣
