Telefunken M12 Pro

 

The Telefunken M12 Pro was little brother of M15, specifically designed for (wealthy) radio stations instead of recording studio.

A relic from the past (and a nice add to my reel-to-reel collection), in the Pro version with XLR I/O sockets instead of the troublesome DIN of non-Pro version.

The (sort-of) aluminum/plywood flight-case with cool leather handles adds mojo to the machine.

Poul Henningsen completely reimagined what a piano could be with his groundbreaking PH Bow Grand Piano of 1937. Eighty-five years later, this design still belongs to the future.

Unlike the traditional “wooden box” piano, Poul Henningsen’s PH Bow Grand Piano incorporates rounded shapes, stunning materials and unique composition. The Avantgarde Edition differs from other editions of the PH Bow Grand Piano in that its carved wooden holes around the entire circumference of the piano as well as on the lid.

Tom speaking about Victor Feldman in 1983, “We used some exotic instruments.  Which I was against at first… Victor Feldman brought in all this stuff and said you could use it or not but you should hear it.  Victor for all his very rich traditional jazz experience as a pianist and composer has this real bent place in him.  In fact we took that “Dave the Butcher” tune, and he put tape on all the piano strings except the first eight notes on the low end and then just laid his hand across it and started banging on it… he got a thrill out of that.  That particular experiment didn’t get on the record but others did.  I used Victor as a barometer for how we were doing.  I had a lot of help.  You don’t go in there alone.  Ever.”
