Derailed!

Listening to J.S. Bach’s Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin by Sigiswald Kuijken on a 1983 analog master-tape copy by Thomas Gallia on Quad ESL is like touching the mystery of creation 💫

One of the three vintage pancakes I’ve been cherishing for the last ~ 40 years… played today on my trusty Studer B62, to preserve them, I routinely play a different one… my preciousssss 💫💎💫

It’s such an intense experience to leave me breathless… 😌

Bowie’s idling in Mustique 💫

Bowie appears on the cover of the September 1992 issue of Architectural Digest, the world's most famous interior design, art, and design magazine.

He is the first person in four years to appear on the cover of such a prestigious magazine.

Bowie is pictured at his home on the island of Mustique, built in 1989 on a hill overlooking Britannia Bay, his tranquil retreat.

"My ambition is to make music so incredibly uncompromising that I will have absolutely no audience left, and then I will be able to spend the whole year on the island."

Some The Beatles’ memorabilia 💫

The Grateful Dead’s mystery disclosed 😏

Staying in the sixties here with The Grateful Dead and their eponymous debut album, "The Grateful Dead", released 1967.

And if you ever wondered, the illegible script on top of the cover says:

"In the land of the dark, the ship of the sun is drawn by the Grateful Dead".

Thanks to Frank Palmgren for the above 🙏

My Card ✅

Disc of the Month - Ralph Towner - At First Light (ECM 2023)

I just got my sealed vinyl-disc copy from a reputable German seller also if I already owned the CD, bought as soon as it was published… for many a second copy of any disc will appear to be redundant and a waste of money… maybe, BUT for me it is a learning opportunity - i. e. - how a (nice) digital recording is able to be enhanced when (carefully) transferred to vinyl… something which still amazes and surprises me!

The masterful Stefano Amerio’s engineering and the carefully, I’d say lovingly made vinyl makes it a true labor of love which homages the artist who gratefully addresses his appreciation to Manfred Eicher for whom he recorded since 1972!

The music is heavenly served by the spacious recording.

I truly suggest everybody to order and buy this masterpiece: it’s like witnessing a still-alive genius in his full bloom and maturity… at home: his breathing and light snorting and humming add trueness to the performance.

A gem to cherish from an artist who I had the chance and fortune to meet and appreciate in person several times.

Thanks, Maestro Towner, for creating and sharing such a wonderful music and a world of beauty 💫

I’m not after subterranean low-end, but light-speed fast bass, so won’t over-complicate things with properly, over-meticulously calculated length bass horn: will give my preference to coherence and natural, not booming fundamentals 😎

Dubbing 💫

It’s so nice, something I love doing… time stops and I just float into music.

I’ve been handling tapes and reels and tape-machines for more than 60 years, now 😎 and I’m never tired or worried by the routine cleaning and the cost of periodic repairs and revisions: it’s much worth as it’s simply how it works and doesn’t hurt.
