Keith Richards with his 1959 Les Paul — the same guitar he later sold to Mick Taylor while Taylor was with John Mayall. Both the guitar and Taylor would rejoin The Rolling Stones in 1969, following Brian Jones’s departure and untimely death.
Mick Taylor picked up the Les Paul from Kieth while still playing with John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and the guitar became a key part of his sound.
When Taylor joined The Rolling Stones in 1969, he brought the Les Paul with him. It would feature on landmark albums like Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main St., helping to define a new era of the band’s sound. Though its time with Keith was brief, the guitar’s role in the Stones’ golden run is unmistakable.
