MEREDITH MONK
The Venice Biennale has awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement to American composer and performer Meredith Monk, a multidisciplinary artist whose influence extends from avant-garde music to contemporary classical music, from experimental electronics to jazz to pop, inspiring generations of artists.
According to the citation, " Meredith Monk revolutionized music and the art of performance with an approach that expanded the potential of the human voice, transforming it into an unprecedented vehicle for sonic exploration. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement in Music recognizes her extraordinary and lasting impact on the contemporary music scene, her unique artistic vision, and her constant commitment to sonic research. Through her compositions and performances, Meredith Monk has demonstrated a relentless capacity for innovation, transforming music into an immersive and ritual experience. Her music exists in the same space that La Stella Dentro aims to explore: a sonic cosmogony, a vibration that passes through us, connecting us with others, a profound echo in which listening becomes transformation. Her wordless incantations and ability to construct entire sonic worlds from the simplest gestures give rise to a dialogue between matter and spirit, between presence and transcendence. Her work does not allow itself to be constrained by historical categories, but opens up a living, constantly evolving sonic universe." which appears at the same time archaic and radically innovative.
