Archie Fisher 💫🍀🙏💫

 

Ouch!! I just found out that Archie Fisher has stage four cancer and has gone into hospice. Such a great singer and guitarist, whom I got to know a bit from doing his radio shows in the 80s and 90s, and talking to him about the inimitable Davy Graham during a drive from Edinburgh to Glasgow. 

Here's a story I think you'd like: he was talking about the obsession with alternate tunings some American guitarists who came to workshops he would do at festivals had (I suppose some still do). He said sometimes it was hard to get them to talk about anything else at the workshops. Anyway, one of these celtoids got him aside and asked him what his own favourite alternate tuning was, and Archie replied in his dry way, that it was the "Gaelic" tuning. The fellow got excited, and said "the Gaelic tuning - how is that tuned?" "G-A-E" says oor Archie, then after the shortest of pauses, "L-I-C."
