On this date in 1963, Aldous Huxley—author of Brave New World and The Doors of Perception—made an extraordinary final request. As he lay dying from cancer, he asked his wife to administer LSD so he could meet death with clarity and intention. She gave him two 100-microgram doses and guided him through a peaceful transition.
Decades before psychedelic end-of-life therapy became a research field, Huxley was already exploring the frontier.
