“Unfortunately Federico Savina passed away yesterday, unknown to most, he still remains an important figure in the history of recording in Italy.
I spent a couple of hours chatting with him during the Lago Film Fest a few years ago about what our work was like in his time, sorry for having sometimes neglected the family for this.
He specialized in film music recordings for which he had several awards, working with the greatest directors and musicians in Italy and he told me about the live recordings he made with the orchestra, in which he followed with the volume sliders the forte and piano of the score following the director's instructions. In those days the volume controls were knobs to turn and he compared his thumb / forefinger to mine to point out that his two fingers were deformed from use…”
