I recently learned of and ordered this book. As I usually do, I bought a used copy online from a thrift store. It just arrived and lo’ and behold when I cracked it open, there was a written dedication and autograph from Gary Burton himself!
Can’t wait to get started on it. Anyone else read it? Thoughts?
EDIT: Great read - can’t put it down!
Thanks to Arthur Di Dio and congratulations for the cool find 🍀🙌🍀

Congratulations, Stefano -- that's a very satisfying find. I do love it when used book sellers don't look for signed inscriptions or don't bother to mention them -- and better, don't charge for them either! I've had it happen a few times.
ReplyDeleteI've never read GB's book and I will admit that while I admire the man he isn't, for reasons I can never quite put my finger on, amongst my favourite vibes players. Somehow I have never found him an exciting player, although I do really like the early LPs with guitarists in the line-up (Country Roads and Lofty Fake Anagram).
My favourite record of his is the marvellous one with Carla Bley, A Genuine Tong Funeral, which I found an original of recently. It replaced an old RCA France pressing from the late-70s which by comparison sounded pretty bloody awful.
