FUTURIST MANIFESTO

We are convinced that our race is destined to dominate the world musically as it dominates it plastically and literary. Our race in fact contains better quality and greater quantity of brilliant and innovative musicians.

If many of these are ignored and many remain suffocated, it is due to the hegemony of the conservatories, publishers and performers, which

We futurist musicians have admired our glorious musical past and admire the works of the great musteists, faturists and avant-gardists. They have reached high peaks of splendor and originality. We believe, however, that other openings can open up.

other peaks can be ascended through the absolute destruction of all musical laws and free improvisation.

We will thus avoid:

1. — Every academic flavor.

2. - Every chord or motif already heard.

— The obsessions of time, structure, rhythm, all the formal laws and all the displays of

bravura.

4. - The most stupid artifice of creating a melody and then dressing it in fashion (which varies

from out of tune to a mellow and six-wheeled style).

We will thus obtain:

1. - An infinite originality of ideas. In fact, the idea in music is more difficult than in any other art. The idea is also fleeting and difficult to retain. The idea is born in fact when one does not think at all about harmony and musical laws.

2. — We will obtain a natural out of tune very different from the artificial out of tune that many musicians prepare and premeditate with the concept that the modern musician must enrich his own originality with out of tune.

Our improvisation will be explained:

1. - With performances on the piano or other instruments.

2. - With musical comments of verses, thoughts, pictures, perfumes, tactile tables, etc.

3.一With

musical discussions between two pianos, piano

and another

instrument, piano and improvised singing, piano and improvising orator.

We thus prepare that ideal fusion to the sound of the arts that the greatest artists have

always longed for.

When the sensitivity of the public is more developed and will no longer sit at every discord,

we will also realize the free improvisation of the orchestra.

For those who do not care about faturistically enjoying and immortalizing artistic sensations, there are already effective and to be perfected recording pianos.

With this manifesto on unique improvisation we do not want to destroy anything

important, but to enrich with new, electrify with force, immeasurably with genius music, a sublime art and at the same time a very effective hygiene of social elevation.
