Record of the month: Michael Mantler - Silence

... a captivating, intense composition by Michael Mantler, with Carla Bley, Robert Wyatt, Kevin Coyne on Harold Pinter's text.

As a plus, it's a Watt/ECM recording of the VERY best breed, with audiophile quality to die for...

I listened to this very disc in awe... the tension in the characters voices, Bley, Coyne and Wyatt is palpable despite the recording was spreaded in three different recording studios...
Nonetheless, the composer and recording engineer, mr. Mantler himself, did a great job of blending the music to obtain a "performance", and not a multitracking/editing pastiche.

BTW: Chris Spedding's electric guitar is also wonderfully expressive and beautifully sounding.

I really enjoyed this record.
